The 2024 general election result: the next UK government
The FT’s Inside Politics newsletter joined forces with the Political Fix podcast for a snap FT Live event on the UK general election result, answering subscribers’ questions on 5 July 2024.
Political Fix host Lucy Fisher dissected the election outcome with Inside Politics author Stephen Bush, political editor George Parker and columnists Robert Shrimsley and Miranda Green. The experts unpacked the results of a historic Labour victory and looked at what's next for Rishi Sunak, Ed Davey and Nigel Farage. Plus, we analysed the striking performances by the smaller parties – including the SNP, the Liberal Democrats and the Greens – as well as the independents. Lastly, we looked ahead to the formation of the new government and examined how different parts of the United Kingdom voted.
